The Three Hobbies Part 1

At some point we’ve all encountered this picture:

How many of us have actually found those three hobbies that we love? As we all know, I consider this website “a place where passions meet.” To me, those three hobbies sound like something we should be passionate about.

The word “passionate” is defined as “showing or caused by strong feelings or a strong belief.” With a simple Google search of “quotes about passion” we can find numerous quotes, pictures and captions about passion. My favorite one is “Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” Personally, I am passionate about many things, but if I HAD to pick just three hobbies I would choose writing, dancing and sewing.

Writing keeps me creative. Once upon a time I used to love to read. You could always find me somewhere with my nose in a book. One day it hit me: I want someone to get as much joy from reading my stories as I get from reading other people’s stories. So I took my first Creative Writing class in 9th grade. I was challenged with the task of writing a story which was to be turned in by the end of the semester. The background of the story had to do with human sacrifices, stolen identities, and a lot of murder. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. It did leave an opening for either a sequel or a prequel. I took another Creative Writing course as a junior for college credit. The professor there loved my work. However, it’s difficult to explain why you attended one class on campus and not the other two so I dropped her class. Most of the stories composed in her class were short stories about memories or ourselves. As an adult I’ve written some Sailor Moon fanfiction. (You can read here if you’re interested. https://www.fanfiction.net/~kumikolynn ) At one point I even published a whole book that was a part of a series, but for the life of me I can’t remember the title. It has always been a goal of mine to create a series of stories that would lead to a grand finale. Honestly, I’ve been working on a few different stories with that present goal in mind.

I find myself writing a little more each day, whether on the blog or in my journal. Writing is one of the few ways that I actually unwind. I feel my brain relax. Like most writers, sometimes I do experience “writer’s block” (which is a big reason as to why I haven’t continued writing any of the stories), but that’s why I journal and have a blog. Even as I’m typing right now, it’s like I’m holding a conversation with you, my friend on the other side of the computer screen. I still struggle with run-on sentences, sometimes, but that’s just the way my brain works. Sometimes it’s all one continuous, flowing thought. Ultimately, I guess this hobby could make me money as well, but I like it as my creative release.

Until next time, butterfly.
