Destination Florida Keys

I arrived in Key Largo on May 14th after driving approximately 7 hours from North Florida. The hotel I stayed at is called Waterside Suites and Marina. Now let’s talk about this place.

Accommadations

Waterside Suites and Marina is somewhat off the grid and definitely worth a second look. It’s like vacationing in a townhouse. The living room and dining area/kitchen is downstairs and the bedroom is upstairs. It came equipped with 2 half bathrooms. (The one downstairs only has a toilet and a sink.) If you sit out on the balcony, you have a beautiful view of the marina. This is definitely a sight worth seeing on a regular basis. Housekeeping comes Monday and Friday so if you’re like me and don’t enjoy that constant “knock, knock, knock, housekeeping” waking you up at random times then this is the best. Another great thing about this hotel is the fact that it’s centrally located around everything you might need.

Cuisine

I had the pleasure of visiting two (2) local restaurants. The first one is called The Hideout. The Hideout is located off Transylvania Ave and has a beautiful view of the water. This place blows Denny’s and IHOP out of the water! The staff here was very attentive and friendly from the time we sat down to the time we left. No looking for your waitress wondering if they’re ever going to come back happening here. The food is made with no added msg which is perfect for those of us looking to maintain our balance while on vacation. The food is very filling as well and the price is friendly on the wallet. I give this place 2 thumbs way up. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸฝThe other restaurant I had the pleasure of visiting is called Keys Bite. (Look at the cute menu! ๐Ÿ˜) This restaurant has a little bit of something for everyone. The staff here is friendly as well. (so maybe it’s just a Keys thing because people in North Florida are angry little balls of hate) There is always a waiter/waitress floating around here so it’s not like you have to search for your server. The prices are wallet friendly as well and the food ๐Ÿคค delicious. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ way up for this place.

Activities

While in Key Largo I participated in a glass bottom boat ride with the Key Largo Princess. The ride was very smooth and I thoroughly enjoyed being out on the water. The crew was knowledgeable about a lot of the reef. We visited Molasses Reef and while there was a lot of coral and fish, it left a little more to be desired. It’s a good way to see the ocean without getting wet, but perhaps a snorkel session would’ve been the better way to go.I got to spend the rest of my Key Largo trip at Far Beach which is located inside John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. The beach was quaint and there were not a lot of people on it which was very pleasant. (I prefer when the beach isn’t crowded which is why I usually travel during the work week.) The towering palm trees offered shade and a delightful breeze. My second day was spent in Key West. The parking down here was ridiculous. The lady told me it was $20 for 2 hours and $40 for the whole day. I have experienced places where I had to pay to park before, but none ever so steep. One of the shop owners suggested next time I ride my bike instead or take an Uber. I visited the Ripley’s Believe It or Not located off of Duval Street. I also got the pleasure of being chased by roosters/chickens which wasn’t too bad once I got back to my car. There are so many shops along the strip which is nice if you like to shop.Overall, I wasn’t disappointed in my trip to the Keys. I can finally check the Keys off of my bucket list vacation sites. Have you ever been to the Keys? What are some things you saw and liked? Let me know in the comments.
